A Science Motivation Camp was organised by the Department of Instrumentation & USIC, Gauhati University on 30 January 2021 at Dharapur Higher Secondary School.

A Science Motivation Camp was organised by the Department of Instrumentation & USIC, Gauhati University on 30 January 2021 at Dharapur Higher Secondary School. The objective of this camp is to make the High School level students familiar with the electronic components like resistor, capacitor, battery etc., optical components such as laser, prism and glass slab and measurement instruments like digital multi meter, vernier callipers, screw gauge, digital balance, thermocouple etc.

With the help of scientific experiments, the students were encouraged to design and test some basic electronic circuits. An electronic circuit using a light-dependent resistor was designed by the students that can sense the presence and absence of light in the surrounding area. The light emitting diode (LED) connected to the circuit glows when the ambient light is below a threshold level and turns off when it goes above. Demonstration of some optical experiments using laser, prism and glass slabs and measurement of temperature using a thermocouple and a thermometer were shown to the students. Experiments related to measurement of density of water and two different materials like iron & aluminium were demonstrated to the students using vernier callipers, screw gauge and a digital balance.

Participants

Twenty-five (25) students participated in the camp from five different schools viz. Jalukbari Girls' High School, Dharapur Higher Secondary School, Paschim Ramcharani High School, Rajdhar Bora Higher Secondary School and Chandra Prava Bora High School.
