in the North Eastern region of the country

The Department started its journey as USIC (A scheme of UGC) in 1978 and has passed through several progressive transformation to reach its present state. With three active wings viz. Academic (M.Sc. and PhD in Instrumentation and Applied Physics), USIC (a scheme initiated by UGC, GoI) and SAIF (A national facility for sophisticated analytical instruments facility by DST, GoI) the department is contributing by producing highly skilled manpower, analytical services to the research community of the country and fabrication services to the academic institutes of the region.
