The Department of Instrumentation and USIC, Gauhati University is going to organize a workshop (in-person mode) on Opportunities for Research and Innovation using the DST-sponsored Facilities of Gauhati University from 03 to 09 May, 2022. All the lectures will be presented by experts and researchers from various fields.

The programme will address all the aspects, from basic theory, instrumentation, experiment and analysis of the DST-sponsored facilities present at Gauhati University.

There will be extensive hands-on sessions for each experimental technique mostly from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, which will cover topics from sample preparation to data analysis. It is meant for young students, researchers and faculty members of colleges, universities & research institutes.

The training programme is financially sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India under Synergistic Training Program Utilizing The Science & Technology Infrastructure (STUTI).

Prof. Ananthakrishnan Srinivasan

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati

Dr. Ananthakrishnan Srinivasan is a professor in the department of Physics and Dean of Faculty affairs (IIT Guwahati). He received the Young Scientist Research Award in Physics for the year 1996 from Department of Atomic Energy (Govt. of India). He is also a Fellow of Instruments Society of India. He got his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and got his post-doctoral degree from Instituto de Estructura de la Materia, C.S.I.C., Madrid, Spain.

Prof. Jubaraj Bikash Baruah

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati

Prof. Jubaraj Bikash Baruah is a professor at the department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. He worked as a Visiting Professor, Tokyo Institute of Technology during May- July 1999. He received his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He also get the Bronze medal from Chemical Research Society of India in 2005.

Dr. Pranjit Hazarika

Gauhati University

Dr. Pranjit Hazarika completed his B.Sc. in Geology from Cotton College in 2008, following which he did his M.Sc. in Geological Sciences from Gauhati University. He enrolled for a PhD program at IIT Kharagpur in 2010 and had completed his Ph.D by 2016. He has been offered postdoctoral positions in University of Johanesburg and Geological Survey of Canada. He joined the Department of Geological Sciences, Gauhati University in October 2016. Currently, he has three major research projects funded by DST, Department of Atomic Energy-Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (DAE-BRNS) and Ministry of Earth Sciences. He was awarded INSA Young Scientist Medal for the year 2020 by Indian National Science Academy and Professor N.N. Chatterjee medal for contributions to Economic Geology by Asiatic Society, Kolkata in 2019.

Dr. Ranjit Thakuria

Gauhati University

Dr. Ranjit Thakuria is serving as an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University since 2014. He received his BSc (2000–2003) from B. Borooah College and MSc (2004–2005) from Gauhati University, India. He then moved to the University of Hyderabad, where he received his PhD (2011) in Crystal Engineering under the supervision of Professor Ashwini Nangia. After obtaining his PhD, he carried out one year postdoctorate with Professor William (Bill) Jones at the University of Cambridge, UK (2011–2012). Then, he spent a year at Tel-Aviv University, Israel, as a postdoctoral researcher with (late) Professor Israel Goldberg (2013–2014). His major research interest includes pharmaceutical cocrystals, heterogeneous catalysis, and design and synthesis of functional materials based on mechanochemistry. He is a recipient of multiple national and international awards including SERB-Young Scientist Award; Emerging Investigators in Cryst. Growth Des., ACS (2019), and Teacher of the Year Awards 2021 by Academisthan foundation. He was also selected among the top 100 000 or 2% scientists during the year 2020 by Elsevier BV, Standford University. He served as a guest editor for a Cryst. Growth Des. virtual special issue on “π–π Stacking in Crystal Engineering: Fundamentals and Applications”. He has published more than 50 research articles including 4 review articles and a few book chapters in well reputed international journals. He is a reviewer of various international journals including CrystEngComm (RSC), Chem. Commun. (RSC), Cryst. Growth Des. (ACS), International Journal of Pharmaceutics (Elsevier), etc.
