The department offers MSc. Course in Instrumentation & applied Physics and PhD in Instrumentation as per Gauhati University’s PhD regulation. Interdisciplinary research is undertaken by researchers of the department in areas like Agri Instrumentation, Nano Technology, Smart sensor Instrumentation, GPR and MEMS based Instrumentation.
The department organizes Science Motivation Camp for school students and Training programs for undergraduate students from time to time. Also GU HAM Radio Society, formed recently, intends to create awareness of applicability of HAM Radio among undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) consists of one Mechanical Workshop having Carpentry Shop, Machine Shop, Welding Shop and Glass Blowing Shop, Electrical and Electronic Repair Shop. In these facilities, practical classes of Workshop Practice of MSc Instrumentation, Workshop Practice of Third Semester BTech/BS of GUIST are conducted.
